I grew up in Henry County, South of ATL which I warmly regard as the screendoor to hell, so before I could drive I started planning my escape
I got myself a guitar at the age of 13, I was gonna be the biggest thing my hometown had seen and all those stupid rock n roll cliches
But as time goes by it’s certain, that certain things will change
And you can spend your whole life working, to try and stay the same
But plan on doing doubles ‘til you die, at that diner in LaGrange
So I made it through college by the skin of my teeth, but it wasn’t because of grades but the bourbon and weed, Athens, Georgia you were one hell of a home to me
And I recorded a record, then we loaded the van but the last thing the world needed was another punk-rock band, so I spent the next five years barely getting by
But as time goes by it’s certain, that certain things will change
And you can spend your whole life working, to try and stay the same
But plan on doing doubles ‘til you die, at that diner in LaGrange
Well as time goes by you know certain things change, it’ll sneak up on you and then your life’s rearranged, I’ve seen marriages, divorces, babies, and divorces
A life on the road can make the world feel wrong, you can only pretend to be eighteen for so long, and I think you know how this one ends
But as time goes by it’s certain, that certain things will change
And you can spend your whole life working, to try and stay the same
But plan on doing doubles ‘til you die, at that diner in LaGrange
So here I stand in front of you today, and I’d like to think that I did okay, I just lost my band, my innocence, and my mind
But I’ll keep on pretending I’ve got it all figured out, and I’ll sing with such passion and I’ll leave no doubt, you just gotta believe me when I say...
But as time goes by it’s certain, that certain people change
And you can spend your whole life working, to try and fight that change
But plan on doing doubles ‘til you die, at that diner in LaGrange
Loners Society is the brain-child of Unusual Suspects and County Line Strangers’ primary songwriter/singer, Matt Megrue.
While both of Megrue’s previous projects primarily emphasized their collective punk/country upbringings, the new EP from Loners Society takes that same honesty and sprinkles in a little bit of soul in what Megrue describes as, “southern-fried, indie rock and roll."...more
